A beginner's view of chess openings

2026-08-12

Most of my weekends now go into chess openings. Keeping a simple log helped more than I expected. The first attempts were clumsy, and that was fine. The notes below are mostly for my future self. I underestimated how much light matters. More on this later.

After a few years of travel notes. Keeping a simple log helped more than I expected. The second try took half the time of the first. Most of the work is preparation; the visible part is quick. Reading the manual first would have saved me an afternoon. The first attempts were clumsy, and that was fine. Next time I want to try a different approach.
